BYD unveiled the Dolphin G DM-i, its first model developed specifically for the European market, with a public debut on May 26 and planned sales this summer. The compact plug-in hybrid measures 4.16 m long and uses BYD’s DM-i hybrid system combining a 1.5L gasoline engine, a front motor and the company’s Blade battery; BYD claims a combined range up to 1,000 km. BYD EVP Li Ke said Dolphin G is the first model fully designed for Europe and signals a shift toward region-specific products, with European styling and local R&D in Budapest and a near-complete vehicle plant and supplier network in Hungary. Deliveries are expected before autumn.
BYD launched a new exterior color, “Chi Sha Red,” for its Fangchengbao (Seal) 5 Flash-Charge edition, priced from ¥305,800. The model, listed on May 13, uses BYD’s second-generation Blade battery, an 800V high-voltage flash-charging platform and claims a combined range up to 1,310 km. It pairs with the Tian Shen Zhi Yan-B assisted driving laser version and debuts BYD’s high-end suspension system “Yun Nian-P Ultra,” which enables rapid emergency maneuvers such as three-minute air tire change, 15 km/h three-wheel driving for continued mobility, and wheel-lift self-recovery plus a tire-failure stabilization system. The update underscores BYD’s push in EV battery, charging and advanced vehicle dynamics for high-end off-road capability.
BYD will hold an intelligentization strategy press conference on May 28 where it is expected to announce new breakthroughs in vehicle intelligence. The event follows BYD's March 5 launch of its second-generation Blade Battery and ultra-fast charging, which charges from 10% to 70% in five minutes and to 97% in nine minutes. BYD has formed a 5,000+ member ADAS team and plans over ¥100 billion in smart vehicle investment; by end-2025 more than 2.5 million vehicles with its "Tianshen Eye" fleet sensors created China's largest car-cloud dataset, producing over 150 million effective driving kilometers per day. BYD is exploring “AI agent + world model” training to close the data–R&D–deployment loop.
BYD launched the third-generation Yuan PLUS, priced from ¥119,900 to ¥149,900, offering two range options of 540 km and 630 km. The compact SUV uses BYD’s second-generation Blade battery and new flash-charging tech, pairs a 240 kW rear-drive motor with a suite of safety and comfort features including seven airbags, TBC rollover/flat-tire stability, optional “Tianshen Eye B” lidar-assisted driving (¥12,000), and the Cloudian-C intelligent damping system. The model brings refreshed design cues, larger central touchscreen, two-spoke steering, wireless charging, 16-speaker audio, new interior trims, versatile storage including 39 compartments, and novel passenger amenities. It underscores BYD’s push on battery tech, charging speed and ADAS options in the affordable EV segment.
