Microsoft Edge 148 begins migrating Workspaces to a new V2 architecture, shifting saved workspace data from OneDrive/SharePoint into Edge Sync to boost stability and performance; the move drops built‑in workspace sharing and leaves V2 workspaces local when sync is disabled by policy. The release also deepens Microsoft 365 Copilot integration with a new Copilot tab that blends search, chat and web exploration, sidebar container tweaks, and an opt‑in work‑history search to surface recent pages. Separately, Edge will add in‑page site troubleshooting prompts (rolling out June 2026) to diagnose layout, login or script issues and suggest fixes like adjusting Tracking Prevention or per‑site permissions.
Edge's updates change how workspace data, AI assistance, and troubleshooting are managed, affecting browser stability, data locality, and enterprise policies. Tech professionals must reassess sync, sharing, privacy, and admin controls when deploying or supporting Edge.

Emma Roth / The Verge : Microsoft updates Edge with new AI features, including letting Copilot gather information from open tabs and use browsing history for more relevant answers — The new features include AI podcasts, summaries, and quizzes based on what you're browsing.
Microsoft announced it is removing the standalone Copilot Mode from Edge and instead embedding AI across desktop and mobile browsing. With user permission, Edge can now read, compare and analyze multiple open tabs to produce summaries and comparisons, reducing tab switching for research or product comparisons. Mobile Edge adds a Journeys feature that clusters browsing history by tasks rather than time. Copilot Voice and Vision let users authorize AI to read screen content and follow up by voice; Copilot can also use longer-term memory and chat history (with consent) to produce context-aware answers. Additional features include text drafting in-site, webpage-to-audio (English-only initially), an education mode with quizzes, and in-browser rewrite tools. Microsoft did not specify rollout timing or regions.
Microsoft began rolling out Edge 148 (148.0.3967.54), which migrates Workspaces to a new V2 architecture by moving saved workspace data from OneDrive/SharePoint into Edge Sync to improve stability and performance. The migration removes workspace collaboration/sharing and, if sync is disabled by policy, v2 workspaces will remain local only. Edge 148 also enhances Microsoft 365 Copilot integration—updates to the Copilot Chat sidebar container, a new Copilot tab merging search/chat/web exploration, and an opt-in work-history-based Copilot search that can surface recent work pages in results. Password autofill now uses affiliation groups for more consistent credential suggestions across related domains and adds ID document autofill types.
Microsoft will add an in-browser site troubleshooting prompt to Edge, rolling out from June 2026 per the Microsoft 365 roadmap. The “improved site compatibility and site troubleshooting controls” feature will detect when a page behaves abnormally—layout issues, broken buttons, failed logins or unexpected load results—and surface actionable fixes directly in the page. Edge will suggest checks such as Tracking Prevention level (e.g., Strict blocking scripts/Cookies), site-specific permissions (notifications, popups, location, Cookies) and other per-site settings to help users quickly identify whether browser protections or site configuration cause the issue. The feature aims to reduce time spent hunting settings; rollout timing may change.
