Global EV demand surged in April as buyers shift decisively toward electrified vehicles. Europe reported a sharp month-on-month jump in electric car sales, while China set a new milestone with NEVs accounting for 61.4% of retail sales as internal combustion engine purchases collapsed. Chinese domestic brands dominated sales and exports, with NEVs making up over half of passenger car exports amid strong year-on-year growth. Analysts attribute the shift to higher oil prices, improving consumer confidence in EVs, and expanding model lineups, suggesting accelerating electrification and rising global competitiveness of Chinese EV manufacturers.
Rapid EV adoption reshapes supply chains, software platforms, and competitive dynamics for automakers and suppliers. Tech professionals must prepare for increased demand in battery tech, power electronics, charging infrastructure, and vehicle software integration.

随着各国和消费者对能源危机的应对,今年售出的汽车中近30%预计将是电动汽车——国际能源署(IEA)
The International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasts that electric vehicle (EV) sales will reach about 23 million units in 2026, representing nearly 30% of global new-car sales as governments and consumers accelerate electrification amid energy pressures. The IEA report notes 2025 EV sales rose ~20% year-over-year, surpassing 20 million for the first time and accounting for roughly one-quarter of new vehicle sales. This trend underscores growing market momentum for EV manufacturers, charging infrastructure providers, battery suppliers and related software and grid services, with implications for automakers’ strategies, energy demand profiles, and supply chains across minerals, semiconductors, and power networks.
欧洲4月电动汽车销量激增
China’s retail New Energy Vehicle (NEV) penetration hit a record 61.4% in April 2026 as internal combustion engine (ICE) sales plunged. CPCA and Dongchedi data show NEV retail sales of 849,000 units versus just 530,000 ICE units, a 37% year-on-year collapse for ICE. Nine of the top ten best-selling passenger models were electrified, led by the Geely Xingyuan and Xiaomi SU7; Geely, BYD, Changan, Leapmotor and Xiaomi were top NEV sellers. Domestic brands saw NEV penetration of 80.1%, and NEVs comprised 52.7% of passenger car exports as exports surged 80.7% YoY. Analysts link the shift to high oil prices and rising consumer confidence in EVs, signaling accelerating electrification and export competitiveness.
