Manufacturers are pushing foldables toward traditional flagship performance while experimenting with form factors. Motorola’s new Razr Fold brings tablet-style utility in a pocketable package, flagship internals, strong battery life, sharp cameras and stylus support, but its hefty price and some trade-offs leave its appeal niche. Reviews praise its screen and performance yet note weight and underwhelming AI features. Meanwhile, Samsung is refining its own “wide” Fold8 variant with high-resolution dual 50MP cameras and power-optimized batteries to defend market leadership as rivals—including an anticipated foldable iPhone—heat up competition in premium foldables.

Motorola launched the Razr Fold, its first tablet-style foldable after years of flip-style Razr devices; it combines flagship specs with a large foldable display that still folds to pocketable size. Competing with Samsung and Google’s similar designs, the Razr Fold doesn’t redefine the category and retains familiar trade-offs: improved hardware and fewer traditional foldable issues, but lingering impracticalities and a premium $1,900 price. Motorola’s approach prioritizes a stylish, wow-factor device that may not justify the cost for most buyers, leaving consumers to weigh novelty and form factor against price and real-world utility. The launch highlights ongoing market competition in premium foldables.

Samsung’s rumored “wide fold” Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide will use a dual 50MP camera setup (main + ultrawide) and pack a 4800mAh battery, according to GalaxyClub and reported by IT Home. The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 is said to keep a higher-end 200MP main sensor and a larger 5000mAh battery. The Fold8 Wide is expected to debut on July 22 as Samsung’s bid to counter Apple’s anticipated first foldable iPhone (reported as iPhone Ultra) and defend its leadership in global foldables. Reported hardware details include a 7.6-inch inner display, 5.4-inch outer screen, an approximate 4:3 inner aspect ratio, and an unfolded thickness near 4.5mm.
